Project 2: Exhibition Catalog
Project 2 in Art 151: Publication Design required us to focus on the systematic nature of publication design in constructing a catalog for World War I posters for an exhibition in Drake University's Anderson Gallery. While the front matter, covers, and artists featured pages were all fun to put together and thus completed first, the essay pages proved much more difficult, as there was little room for every item that needed including on the page. Ultimately, my grid proved successful in allowing all the posters and essays to coexist (somewhat) harmoniously on the pages. The grid is comprised of text divided into two column blocks, and features geometric circle elements periodically throughout the catalog. The bottom of the pages is divided by a line that separates the captions and page numbers. The paper is thick and an off-white color, alluding to an aged quality one would expect of posters from the Great War.
