Project 3 in Art 151: Publication Design required us to turn a printed publication into a digital app using the Apple iPad as the chosen platform. This project features the page layouts for my tablet design of the monthly American fashion/culture magazine Flaunt. Flaunt is an independent magazine published 10 times a year and distributed in over 32 countries. The physical magazine is over-sized and spacious, featuring subtle and artistic spreads as well as edgy content and ample advertisements. I wanted that luxurious and artistic feel to carry over to the smaller medium of the iPad. I went with a grayscale theme accented by white type and tools, with the occasional burst of color from the content itself. The subdued characteristics of my tablet magazine don't detract focus from the actual content, like "flashy" features and tools might. I tried to emulate the subtlety of Apple product design, whose primary focus is on usability and engagement of the viewer. Thus, I tried to make my tablet designed Flaunt magazine as user-friendly and simple as possible.
